It’s time to enter the wonderful world of BOOKS at The 2017 London Children’s Book Fair which presents the best of contemporary literature for children. This year’s fair celebrates the power of storytelling. With something for everyone one, from toddlers to teens, admission is free for children and adults. The fair takes place at the Parasol unit’s galleries on Friday and Saturday 1516 December 2017.

The 2017 London Children’s Book Fair encourages the joy of reading through all kinds of events, including illustrator workshops, storytelling sessions and readings by favourite authors and poets. This family event also includes book signings and a collaborative live drawing session with this year’s specially commissioned illustrator, Emily Rand. Discover new books and cherish old favourites from renowned publishers. Meet authors and illustrators, then buy the perfect gifts for Christmas – books!

The book fair kicks off on Friday 15 December with workshops and author readings for primary school children from Hackney and Islington. In a series of interactive workshops, Melanie Terrade, Director of Tinkamel, uses LED lights in a celebration of the collaborative power of science and art. It’s certain to fire up young people’s imaginations.

On Saturday, there are free workshops for the whole family. Design your own poster with illustrator Teresa Sdralevich from Cicada Books. Be captivated by the storytelling of Frann Preston-Gannon. Join Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell, aka Good Wives and Warriors, for an inspiring workshop of huge wall-painting. Illustrator David Barrow from Gecko Press will introduce his picture book Have You Seen Elephant? Come along to an author reading with Tower Block Books. Engage in poetry readings and activities with The Poetry Society.

Plus Gamar will introduce a free augmented-reality, literacy-based, treasure hunt to encourage children and families to learn about and explore the gallery space through a series of interactive games. For more information, please visit http://gamar.com, or download the app on your mobile or tablet to play AR (artificial reality) tours in your local attractions.

On Saturday, our culinary neighbours Sardine will be selling sandwiches for all to enjoy throughout the day.
