19 September - 16 December 2007

Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art will show the work of the Japanese-born, Los Angeles-based artist Yutaka Sone in a one-person exhibition for the first time in London from 19 September – 16 December 2007.

The exhibition, Secret for Snow Leopard will comprise more than 40 works made between 1998 and 2007, and includes several of Sone’s white marble sculptures, his crystal snowflakes and over a dozen of his paintings. Yutaka Sone will also exhibit a large installation It seems Like a Snow Leopard Island, a self-contained, man-made universe with glaciers, running water and tropical plants. Yutaka Sone sees the ‘snow leopard’ as a metaphor for perfection and ultimately an inspiration to achieve perfection in his work.

Yutaka Sone was born in 1965 in Shizuoka, Japan. He studied architecture at Tokyo Geijutsu University, but opted to become an artist. His work is held in public collections worldwide including: Art Institute of Chicago; Daros Collection, Zürich; High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Kanazawa City Museum of Art, Kanazawa; Kunsthalle Bern, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art. In 2003 the Tate acquired Highway Junction 110-105 (2002) with funds provided by the 2003 Outset Frieze Acquisitions Fund. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.

This exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive publication.
