Monique Frydman publication

Monique Frydman publication

Overview

Parasol unit has published a limited edition publication to accompany Monique Frydman's exhibition at the foundation, which surveys over thirty years of the French artist's career.

Frydman's paintings in the exhibition are all beautifully reproduced in this publication. Her works are a vibrant embodiment of colour and light, in which elegant arabesques of lines, created by the process of frottage, blend into her colour-saturated canvas. From the 1980s onwards Frydman started to use intensely rich colours, especially deep dark reds and blues, in her work. By the latter part of that decade she was making works of dazzling luminosity, paintings that have a subtle relationship to the works of artists she admired, such as Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard and Matisse.

This publication includes insightful essays by Michael Glover, London-based poet, art critic, editor and publisher; Farah Nayeri, culture writer based in London who writes for The New York Times; and Ziba Ardalan, Founder/Director and Curator of Parasol unit, London.

Edited by Ziba Ardalan for Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art, London.
