Matthew Ronay: Goin’ Down, Down, Down

American artist Matthew Ronay will have his first solo exhibition in the UK at Parasol unit in London from 12 September – 8 November 2006.

Matthew Ronay’s hyper-realistic works examine themes from daily life and engage with contemporary culture and politics. The exhibition Goin’ Down, Down, Down will consist of several large-scale installations made of MDF with painted surfaces, three of which have been made specially for the London exhibition.

Matthew Ronay was born in 1976, in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He studied at Maryland Institute College of Art and at Yale University and now lives and works in New York.

Matthew Ronay’s work will also be exhibited concurrently at the Serpentine Gallery in London as part of Uncertain States of America, a survey of new American art, curated by Daniel Birnbaum, Gunnar B. Kvaran and Hans Ulrich Obrist which opens on 9 September 2006.

Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art is housed in a former warehouse building on Wharf Road in London N1. Designed by leading architect Claudio Silvestrin, the renovation of the site was completed to museum standard in February 2006. The building has 500 sq ft of exhibition space and includes an artist-in-residence studio and reading area. Founded in 2004, Parasol unit is directed by Ziba Ardalan. The Foundation, a not-for profit operation, is privately funded.
